A few weeks ago, I took a day trip into NYC to visit an old college roommate. Okay...she's not just an old college roommate, she's one of my best friends (that I met in our college dorm suite). We've been amazing friends ever since. We lived through our college years together and then re-united 2 years later in NYC. We've been there for each other through apartment changes, boy changes, job changes, and we have experienced the best of NYC together.
Now that I don't live in NYC anymore, we don't get together as often as we used to. When I was an NYC resident, we made a point to meet for dinner and drinks every couple of weeks and we sat for hours chatting over good wine and fun food finds. If we weren't at one of our favorite BYO Wine Sushi places, she would always pick out places that she knew I'd like...she'd say they're very "Tini-type", "Tini-like", or "Tini-esque". She was always SPOT ON! ("Tini" was and IS a nickname that has stuck from college. And I kind of like it!)
This time around, she picked a place up on the Upper East Side called Parlour. It had a fixed brunch with drinks included. We dined on our spinach and tomato frittatas and sipped on our Bellinis for 4 hours! Thinking back to Saturday, I don't know what we filled 4 hours of conversation with in the same exact chairs we started in, but we did. And we even talked about getting her to NJ for a girl's weekend of painting and wine and our favorite old reality shows. I'm very excited for that!
For me, girl time is a chance to reminisce about our past, gossip, find out what's new, what's making us happy, what's pissing us off... and it's okay to say whatever you want! It's just awesome to talk about what has changed since we have met. I am blessed to have, not one, but a few friends like this, even though it's sad we all live in different cities these days.
In 2014, I'm promising myself to make twice as many Girl Time Dates as I did in 2013. These friendships are some of the most precious things I'll ever have. I encourage everyone to set a date- or three or five- with your best gal friend(s) over the next couple of weeks. Nothing beats GIRL TIME!
